About this place
Taking a seat at the counter reveals a succession of cleanly sculpted nigiri and seasonal appetizers, served over gently compacted sushi rice. Located in Botan in Koto Ward, Edo Fukagawa Sushi Nishichi builds its course menus around top-tier market catches, prominent among them Pacific bluefin tuna sourced from the famed wholesaler Yamayuki at Tsukiji and Toyosu.
A Rhythmic Cadence of Nigiri and Appetizers
Early in the course, cuts like soy-marinated lean bluefin tuna (akami zuke) and melt-in-the-mouth medium fatty tuna (chutoro) showcase both Yamayuki's distinctive depth and precise knife work. Every nigiri receives nuanced attention, from sea urchin seasoned simply with salt to heighten its sweetness and ocean scent, to gizzard shad lightly perfumed with yuzu, and conger eel simmered until pillowy. In between pieces, plates like steamed abalone with rich liver sauce, bites spiced with Japanese prickly ash (hana-sansho), and grilled dishes keep drinks flowing.
Unwinding Over Lunch or Dinner Omakase
Evening menus include a full 27-item omakase course with simmered and grilled fish courses, as well as nigiri-focused variations, inviting guests to linger over sake and wine. Midday options span courses with 10 pieces of nigiri, soup, omelet, and rolled sushi, alongside scattered sushi bowls (bara-chirashi), accommodating casual lunches and celebrations alike. Because counter seating is limited, booking in advance for both lunch and dinner is strongly recommended.
